As some of you know, the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Summer Trade Show is right around the corner. I'm getting excited about all the new products that are coming out and some of the fun promotions I'm starting to plan. Halloween and Christmas are looking to be very popular with many of the companies this year. These are two of my favorite holidays for scrapbooking, because there is so much cute stuff and such fun colors. Don't you agree? Wait until you see some of the stuff we already have on order. Oh my gosh! And I've only just begun!

In order to make some room for this wonderful new stuff, it's time to clear our shelves and our paper trays so we have some where to stick all the goodies when they come flooding in. Here's the good part: That means it's time for a Clearance Sale! And you know how we do it at Urban Scrapbooker. When it's time for a SALE, we mean it's time for a SALE! Starting now, the regular priced holiday merchandise is 40% off. Yep, you heard me... 40% off! PAGE OF THE WEEK
We are only in our third week of Page of the Week, and boy, has this become popular! Each week we have a limited-edition single page layout. The kits come out every Wednesday. If you come in on Wednesday and want to sit down and do your kit right then, we'll have space for ya! I'll be here to help if you have any questions. This goes on all day on Wednesday, so you can swing in at what ever time works for your schedule and squeeze a little crafting time into your day. All you need to do is bring your adhesive (or pick some up while you're at the store). Yep, it's that simple. We have a few kits left from this week. Table space will also be available tomorrow if you'd like to stop by and work on the page. The kit is only $6.99 and I've included a picture so you can get an idea of the kit.

Next Week's Layout will be "You're a Star" and feature Just Dreamy 2 papers from My Mind's Eye in Oranges, Turquoise, and Green. I'm loving this one...

Upcoming Activities and Classes
7/21/09 Beginner 2 Scrapbooking (Beyond the Basics) - if you're kind of new to scrapbooking, or just want to learn a few of those really simple techniques that give your pages the "Wow" factor, this is the class for you! Everything we learn in Beyond the Basics are widely used techniques in scrapbooking. These techniques are fun, simple and easy to incorporate into your page once you have the know how. We make 2 single page layouts in class that are designed to show you many great techniques.

This class is $20 and includes all the supplies for the 2 layouts. All you need is your Basic Tool Kit. For more info, click on the "Classes" tab.

Hi Friends,

I hope the summer is starting off well for you.  I’ve got a lot of things in the works for us here at Urban Scrapbooker.

Michael Jackson Tribute Layout
It’s only been a few days since the passing of Michael Jackson.  I’ve heard a range of feelings about this from many of you.  I also found myself quite shocked at the news as he was an icon of my teenage years and it’s hard to believe he’s gone.  I’ve created a two page Tribute Layout that will be available in a kit in just a few days (I’m waiting for the arrival of some product).  The sample of the layout is at the counter at the store.  It’s complete with a very iconic paper piecing of his shiny black shoes and a silver sparkly glove that is oh-so Michael.  I’ve already started a list of kit reservations and if you would like one reserved for you, please send me an email or stop by the store.  Often times scrapbooking helps us deal with our emotions about events that happen in our lives and for some of us this is one of the most notable events of the year. You have to see this one to know how cool it is and trust me when I tell you, you’ll want this one in your album!

Weekly Page Kits
Starting this week, we will be introducing a weekly page kit that is true Urban Scrapbooker style.  Page kits will be limited in number and be available on Wednesdays.  Classroom space will be available on Wednesday if you would like to put the kit together at the store.  Please bring your basic tool kit with you.

This week is 4th of July themed, using papers from Karen Foster, Scenic Route and My Mind’s Eye.  On Wednesday, the Weekly Page Kit will be $5.99 and space will be available in the classroom if you would like to put it together at the store.  Additional product will also be available if you would like to create a second page.  Check out the June 25th Fast & Fabulous announcement on www.urbanscrapbooker.com for a picture.

Next week’s layout is titled Bloom Where You Are Planted.  This beautiful layout has already gathered many WOW’s in the store.  The paper used is beautiful metallic and embossed papers.  We also do a very cool trick with Fluid Chalk and Diamond Glaze in this one.  The classroom will be available on Wednesday if you would like to put the layout together at the store (and I can show you the cool technique for the leaves).  This kit will be $6.99 with $1 of the kit price going to support Scrappy’s Donation Program (see the end of the email for more details).

Scrappy’s Neighborhood Designs
Many of you know of the great success of our premium line of local paper and cards, and have snagged some of the beautiful product for yourself.  We have been asked by a number of stores if our papers are available for wholesale.  This is a great tribute to the quality and beauty of the product and we are very excited by how well it has been received.  Scrappy is constantly working on bringing new papers into the collection and I am trying to get layout samples available to help inspire some great layouts with these local and regional papers. 

I also wanted to share with you some exciting news about Scrappy’s Neighborhood Designs card line.  I met with the Space Needle about a week and a half ago and they ordered 8 dozen cards for their gift shop!  Isn’t that exciting???  The card line uses photos from some of his scrapbook paper and Pazzle die cuts.  We have many cards made up at the front counter that would be a perfect way to send a handmade greeting that says “Hello from Edmonds (or Seattle)”

Northwest Paper Chase Summer Bonus Week
The Northwest Paper Chase was such a hit that we are having a summer bonus week in August!  The dates will be August 7 – 16th and participation is simple.  For the bonus week, there are no passports to buy, no make-n-takes to collect, just a good, old-fashioned DISCOUNT.  Anyone can participate, and if you bring along your passport and/or pin from a previous Northwest Paper Chase, you will get and additional 5% off.  We have information on our website www.urbanscrapbooker.com.  You can also go to www.northwestpaperchase.com for more information, your coupon and a list of the 18 participating stores.  Also, sign up for the Northwest Paper Chase monthly emails and get great coupons from your favorite local stores (namely Urban Scrapbooker)

• ATC SWAP July 11th 4:00-5:00 FREE – Ever wondered about Artists Trading Cards?  Come join this great group of ladies and learn what all the talk is about.  Basically, you make a decorative card the size of a baseball card.  You bring 15 or so to the Swap and trade them or just come take a peek at what the group is doing.  They are super friendly and happy to show you what it’s all about

• Beginner 1 July 14th 5:30-7:30 $10 – Have you been wondering what scrapbooking is all about?  Let’s get started in this very informative, low-stress fun class.  Learn the basics of scrapbooking.  All you need to bring is a few photos.

•  Flip-Flop Mini Book July 17th 5:30-7:30 $30 – Ribbon bound 8x8 book comes with canvas covers and REAL FLIP FLOPS!  Fun, bright colored papers and ribbons, cute little mini flip-flops and a seashell charm.  This album will be perfect for your summer memories or as to give as a gift.  Album will be picture ready and all supplies are included.  All you need is your basic tool kit and a very strong, quick dry adhesive.  This class will probably run past 7:30.  Sign up early for this class as registration will close a few days earlier than usual so we have time to get enough kits.  Check out the class tab on www.urbanscrapbooker.com for pictures of this adorable album.  Can’t make class but want to make the album anyway?  Just register and let me know.

• Beginner 2 July 21st 5:30-7:30 $20 – Learn some great “next-step” techniques that will take your pages from beginner level to WOW!  Techniques learned will include chalking, tearing, ribbons, buttons, brads, punches, using double sided papers, a great easy paper saving technique and much more

• Fast & Fabulous July 23rd 5:30-7:30 $24 – Get Those Pages Done in this fast paced class.  Always something new to try!  Past techniques have included rub-ons, transparencies, paper-piecing, using the centering ruler, stitching and much more.  If you have never taken this class, you should give it a try.  You will be amazed at the pages you can get done in class…

• Card Class with Teresa July 30th 5:30-7:30 $18 – Make 4 beautiful dimensional cards.  A variety of sentiment stamps will be provided in class so you can make the cards yours.  We will be using the Cuttlebug for embossing and die cutting, so if you have wanted to try it, this will be a great opportunity. on your projects.  Get stuff done!  Yippee!

• CROP NIGHT July 31st 5:00-11:30 $12 – Fun Social evening with give-aways and space to work

Just Added Canvas Wall Art July 27th – 5:30-7:30 $25 - Make your scrapbooking come to life with a beautiful piece of artwork you can hang right on the wall.  This great canvas measures 12x15 and is just beautiful.  Come in and see the sample at the store.  I love mine and I’m hanging it on my own wall after class.  This class is simple enough for anyone to make, yet the outcome is simply beautiful.

Scrappy’s Donation Program

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has brought in donations for our Program.  The response has been amazing.  I recently received a thank you card from some students who used the supplies for card making time, which was a reward at the end of the week if they turned in all their homework.  The teacher said this program has been an incredible motivator for the kids, and we are so happy to hear about the enthusiasm of the next generation of paper crafters.

If you are still organizing (or working up to it…), please bring in your donations anytime.  If you are having a kids program this summer and would like some supplies, please stop by.  It’s that simple…

Hi Friends,

  Is it really possible that spring is here???  Looking out my window (today, at least) I think it might be.  Don’t you just love the northwest this time of year?

  National Scrapbooking Day is coming…
May 2nd to be exact and we are already planning some great stuff.  We’ve got SALES, give-aways, prizes, snacks, and make-n-takes.  The goodies have already started to roll in and I am trying to figure out what we are going to do with it all!  Kim is working on the Make-N-Take so you know it’ll be cute (Hint: 6x6 page…  that’s all I can tell you because I haven’t even seen it yet).  More will be coming soon so mark your calendars!  And Scrappy will be in charge of prizes and you know how he is with prizes (wink - wink).

WOW! 

There is so much new product in here it’s hard to even know where to start.  Here’s a list (I hope I don’t leave anything out…)

• Bo Bunny – we brought in a bunch of their new lines and, boy oh boy, have they been popular.  Great line for girls, boys and pets, as well as some really fun embellishments that are a little different.  Check out their new 6” chipboard letters…

• Paper Loft – It’s hard to choose which of their lines I like best.  Back Roads is absolutely wonderful for our Pacific Northwest colors and activities, as well as for men and it would even work well for heritage.  Slug Bug is flowery and cute (and even has paper with the cutest little VW bugs you’ve ever seen!).  And Heritage – can't forget that.  There’s a beautiful family tree paper that can be either 1 or two pages and some other great new papers…

• Little Yellow Bicycle – Little girls and little boys, baby zoo animals and dots – check out the flannimals (I just love that name!!!)

• My Mind’s Eye – Penny Lane is here!  I got a bunch of requests for this one during the shop hop and it might be my favorite line ever from them.  If you liked Just Dreamy 2, you will go GA_GA (Is that even spelled right??) over this one…

• Making Memories – some great spring and die cut papers, plus lots of glitter letters (pssst…  wedding is coming soon from them and it is gorgeous!)

• SEI – beautiful butterflies and shimmer paper (will be featured in this months Fast & Fabulous Class)

• Pinecone Press – Spring, Spring, Spring!  Lizzies garden is great for spring, mom, baby.  It’s so versatile.  And their Bunny Train Kit is absolutely adorable!  We’ve only got a few of the page kits left so hurry and grab one.  If you like the 3-D Bunny Train Sample, and would like one (even though we are sold out), please let me know and I will get some in our next order.  I know a bunch of you were super disappointed we ran out so quickly of those kits.

• Creative Impressions – Wait until you see the new felt laser cuts from these guys.  We’ve got Dog, Cat, Western, Birthday, Butterflies, and Hearts.  They are so intricate and the price is amazing.  They will go fast!  Also in is new colors of the swirl ribbon.  This is the hottest ribbon in the store and the new colors are perfect for spring.  Ok, and last but not least, they came out with some really cool new flowers in sheer, iridescent, and embossed transparent.  You gotta see all the great stuff from these guys…

• Scrappy's Neighborhood Designs – You’ve asked for it!  We will be debuting a new Seattle Skyline DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD.  And check the new Seattle 4 pack coming soon. Plus, he is working on some beautiful tropical papers that show where he spent his days during our Northwest Paper Chase.  Hint: Beach, Palm Trees, Surf and Sand.  .

Good Deed Doers Donation Program
Thanks to everyone who has been bringing in donations for our local schools, senior centers, and community clubs.  I know you have been having fun cleaning out your spaces and making your spaces more useable.  We have given out 25 to 30 boxes so far and the response from teachers has been overwhelmingly positive.  The generosity of our customers and friends is amazing.  If you are a teacher (or know one) who would like some scrapbooking, card making, or art supplies for your classroom, please get in touch with Scrappy and he’ll get you all set up.  His new email is scrappy@urbanscrapbooker.com

Scrappy’s Neighborhood Designs has been an overwhelming success.  Thanks to everyone for helping Scrappy’s new paper line become our top seller.  Don’t forget to bring your scrapbooking friends into the store when they come to town so they can get some great papers to scrapbook their trip.  And now that the weather is nice, Scrappy is going to start going to local schools and photographing them so you will have the perfect unique paper to scrapbook your children’s school days.  We are taking requests and suggestions for schools you would like to see in paper.  Please email scrappy@urbanscrapbooker.com with your suggestions.  Even if you think your friend emailed already, please drop him a note so we can also get an idea of how many people would like which schools.  The more the merrier, as the saying goes…

  I would also like to welcome a new designer to Scrappy’s Neighborhood Designs – my brother Barry!  Yep, it’s a family affair, that’s for sure.  My brother has a great knack for graphic design so we have started him out making “cute” paper.  Currently he has 3 great papers, St. Patrick’s Day and 2 adorable Easter Papers.  Now that he’s got his feet wet and a better idea of how the design process is working, he’s starting to come up with some more great ideas.  We will also be taking suggestions soon for what you would like to see from Barry.

Wow, so much has been going on over here it's been hard to keep up but I love this time of year! We are busy getting ready for the Northwest Paper Chase and checking in all the new products that have been arriving.

Passports are in! Whoo hoo!

If you have already registered for your passport, we are holding it for you. You can come in and pick it up anytime.

This is going to be a great way to kick off the Shop Hop! The party is going to be from 6:00-8:30 (or so...) and you can drop in any time.
Here's what we have going on:
* We are going to have pizza about 7 from the new Garlic Jim's (have you tried their pizza yet???-- so yummy!).
* The Shop Hop Make-N-Takes will be available if you would like get a jump start.
* Other little projects will be available too (we're still figuring this part out...)
* Also, you'll be able to use your shop hop discount during the party (a day early - so you can make sure to get the good stuff)

Hi Friends,

2ND ANNUAL NORTWEST PAPER CHASE IS COMING

Mark Your Calendars! 2nd Annual Northwest Paper Chase - Coming March 20 - April 4, 2009

This one is even bigger and better than last year, with 28 stores participating and they gave us more time to take it all in. This year we get a little more that 2 weeks (compared with 10 days I think last year)

So briefly how this works, for those of you that are new to it this year. You purchase a passport for $5 prior to the start of the shop hop which will entitle you to a 15% discount at all the participating stores during the shop hop. There is also a collector pin available for $4 more which entitles you to an additional 5%, for a total of 20% discount at all the stores.

Your Home Store (which would be Urban Scrapbooker) will be having a $25 gift certificate drawing for all the shop hoppers that call us the home store (so the odds are pretty good on that one). But there are a ton of other contest you can enter as a part of the Northwest Paper Chase. Their website has complete info (at least as complete as we currently have - we are still nailing down some details). You can find them at www.northwestpaperchase.com

If enough of our home store participants would like to, I think it would be fun to have a pre- Shop Hop Launch party. We can talk schedules and strategy, and maybe even arrange some carpools if people want to. Let's make this the most fun Shop Hop so far!

This event is much bigger than last year, so I suggest you purchase your passport early if you want to take part in all of the fun. We are just starting our registration at the store, so we have plenty right now. If you want to guarantee you get a passport and a pin, please order it this week as I only have a certain number of pins coming in.

Each person participating will need their own passport and pin, if they choose, and they are non-transferable so please take that into consideration when you are getting your group together.

There will a make n take at all the stores. It will be a black and white tag this year, sized so you could make a mini tag book when you are done. I hope Kim will be designing ours, so it should be fabulous.


CLASSES

Classes have been going on like crazy ever since I got back from CHA. It seems we are all in a crafty mood right now. I am working hard to come up with some new ones in addition to our standard classes. Our new teacher, Teresa, has been hard at work formulating some new ideas too. So look for some new announcements soon.

Hi Friends,

Well, I made it back from CHA and boy was it fun! We have had classes and events going on at the store non-stop since I got back so I am still working on a preview email of what is coming in (I ordered so much stuff it's hard to remember it all).

Here's a quick list of some of the ones that I have ordered from so far:

CLASSES

Classes have been going great at Urban Scrapbooker since I got back from CHA. We have had so many fun things going on.

The most popular class by far right now is our KIDS VALENTINES CLASS.
We held two classes last week and both were full so we ADDED AN ADDITIONAL CLASS TODAY AT 5:30.
The kids had so much fun in the classes last week and their valentines turned out wonderful. In this class, we make 12 valentines for $10. There are still some spaces left in today's class if you would like to attend.

Please give me a call to let me know you are coming. If you can't make it to class, we have some extra kits made up that you can purchase to make your own valentines at home.

You can check the website www.urbanscrapbooker.com to see some samples under the classes section of the website. The samples are even cuter in person with the "glitter", "glitter" and "more glitter".

Hi friends,

Well, it looks like I made it down to sunny Anaheim after all for the big CHA trade show. This is the biggest retailers trade show of the year and they have made this one an extra day so we can "hopefully" see it all by the time we have to fly home.

It sounds like I missed a bit of good weather. Too bad. Darn it!

I just want to let you all know that Scrappy will have access to the email for the few days that I am gone. I never know what he has up his sleeve (well, mostly anyway).


These are some of my notes in progress from the show:

* I can tell you already that I have picked out a bunch of new albums, and I am still looking for more.

* I've got some great new ribbons coming. If you are a fan of the swirly organdy ribbon, you will soon have more options (yeah! We love ribbon). But wait til you see the intricate felt and shimmer die cut designs from these guys. So nifty - I can hardly wait to get back home and play.

* A fun new family line with some great embellishments from Mambi.

* The big new line from My Mind's Eye is coming soon and boy is it great! (Keep an eye out for Scrappy to announce a big sale on the MME Wild Asparagus and 29th Street Market. It's getting close to time to say good bye to these guys. Many of the papers are still there, so this will be a great time to stock up if you are a fan of their product Oh, I better stop talking so Scrappy will have something to announce later)

* Doodlebug has some very very cute stuff coming out. I have a few of you who love doodlebug designs. If we haven't talked about it but you love it too, if you let me know what you like then I have a better chance of making this your store too.

* There's more coming but I have to leave something for the next newsletter when I'm not so exhausted.


By the way, There is still a bunch of stuff on the sale tables and the sale wall. We are trying to make room for the new incoming stock, which I have been told will start shipping immediately

But I just wanted to mention that you should check out all the new classes we have. We even have fun valentines classes for kids and it's in 2 different time slots so hopefully one will work with your schedule.

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know what's going on here at Urban Scrapbooker... I've been pretty busy trying to keep up with all the fun stuff for Christmas. I want to thank those of you that have come in to do your holiday project and present shopping here and I have loved seeing some of the projects you are working on... I think my favorite so far is a calendar where the family goat is dressed up differently for every month. That is going to be a hilarious gift! Are you working on something wacky or wonderful? I'd love to see what you've come up with...

Quickie DROP-IN Classes THIS WEEKEND
So if your season is going anything like mine, Christmas is sneaking up pretty fast on you. I've gotten lots of requests for short little classes so you can get some Christmas crafts done without a big impact on your schedule. So here's what we've come up with...

3 different classes running every 20 minutes (or so) all day Saturday and all day Sunday
(Scrappy might be running classes on Sunday, so feel free to come in and enjoy his "teaching").

We just put out these papers about a week ago and they have been VERY popular, with the top sellers being the Seattle Skyline, Pike Place Market, Obama Rally, Edmonds Ferry and Seattle Rain.

Come in and check out these exclusive papers. And if you've got friends coming in for the holidays from out of town, be sure to bring them in so they can get their local papers to scrapbook their Seattle vacation.

NEW PRODUCT

The holiday season is here and Christmas and Holiday card making is in full swing. Have you started yours? We've gotten a bunch of Christmas papers, stickers and embellishments in recently. The Snowy Jo line has been very popular for card making this year, partly due to the great card samples Kim made. All the papers from the samples are currently in stock.

Swell Noel line from K & Co. I think this one is my favorite of the holiday lines, featuring blue, pink and mint green with a retro feel and the cutest little characters. How can you resist? Well, I can't anyway. I'm going to use this line for my holiday pages.

****Oh, and I have to mention the advent calendar tree from this line. I've made a sample and it is tooooooo cute. This is a great project for kids. We have some in stock now, and more are coming. The Little Yellow Bicycle Christmas line is in. There is a plethora of embellishments with this line including glitter brads and stickers, mini books and mini books of stickers. The line leads towards darker greens and reds of traditional Christmas

***Check out the ornaments on the Christmas tree that Kim made. She used the Cosmo Cricket Die Cuts from their Christmas line and the Buck Naked Chipboard from Cosmo as well. Then she touched them up with ink and extra embellishments. Her 8 year old son, Luke, helped her make them and they are way too cute to pass up.

Life's Journey This collection has started coming in, with more on the way. It blends nicely with the Ancestry.com line that is so popular for those heritage projects.


Donation Programs and Contests

We've got a couple great programs going on at Urban Scrapbooker.

The first one is Cards for Heroes.

We have gotten such great response that we are going to extend the donation days for another couple of days, then we have to get the cards shipped off.

We all have too much stuff in our closets that we are holding on to for one reason or another (me included!!!). Maybe it was something for a certain project and you don't need it now. Maybe you have tons of packets of new or half used stickers that you just aren't going to use. Maybe your style has changed. What ever the reason, it's a great time to clean up that project space and donate some of those extra supplies that you don't want or need any longer.

We are collecting papers, stickers, pens, stamps, tools, adhesives, or other useable paper crafting supplies for local pre-schools and senior centers. It's a great way to make sure someone else can enjoy your extras.

Mechanical Card Class - Thursday Dec 4th from 5:30-7:30 $20 includes all paper supplies

Learn to make a very cool mechanical sliding card where you pull out side and the other side comes out revealing a gift card. This has been a very popular class. We've run it 3 times and all were full. Also included in this class is a template for making a box with a lid, and a gingerbread man card. Sign up early for this one.

Hi there Friends,

So much has been going on at the store since we last chatted. But it's late so I am going to try to keep this one shorter than usual (but you know how chatty I get sometimes.) and send another one out shortly with the remaining information.


New Products

There are some great new products in the store that you'll have to check out when you come in.

* DCWV Sweet Stack Line - this line has been flying out of the store because it is just so stinkin' cute! I've already had to reorder some of the stuff more than once! Die Cuts with a View made this line especially for the local scrapbook stores so you'll only find it at places like Urban Scrapbooker. I'd like to thank Kacie Janke for letting us borrow some of her cards to have as samples in the store for a little while.

* Just Dreamy 2 - the new line from My Minds Eye. The cool thing about this line is it's a little different than some of their other lines. This line has more bright colors and much less distressing, but with all those fun die cut accents we all like so much.

* Cosmo Cricket Christmas line is in. These papers are truly beautiful in true Cosmo Cricket fashion. Kim is work on some cool ornaments with their die cut sheet and buck naked chipboard shapes.

* Prima - we've gotten a bunch of new stuff from Prima this past week. Some great swirl crystals, the owl stamps are back in stock, the cutest owl and bat paper over in the Halloween section, mulberry fall leaves, and some different Christmas papers in a variety of colors with matching packs of flowers.

* Some of the new Embossed Leather Albums from Making Memories are in and wow, are they cool looking.


Upcoming Class

Just a quick reminder that this Saturday is the Explosion Box Class at 1:00. I know some of you were checking your schedules and wanted to try and make the class. Let me know by tomorrow if you want to take the class. You can find the details on the website with pictures of what you'll be making.

We are in the process of putting together a card class for Christmas cards.


Donation Programs and Contests

We've got a couple great donation projects in the works.

The first one is Cards for Heros.
We've been talking about doing this card drive for a little while and now is the perfect time. Kim is going to be leading the card making charge through November 21 and starting this weekend at a crop she is having with a bunch of ladies. We really like this idea here at Urban Scrapbooker and want to support it as much as we can, and to encourage participation we are going to sweeten the deal.

For every 5 cards you bring in, you will get an entry into our prize drawing. We are going to start with a $20 gift certificate. As more people bring in cards, we will add more stuff to the drawing. More stuff means more winners. There is a flyer attached to the newsletter with specifics about the contest and what types of cards they are looking for. If you didn't receive the attachment, please let me know. You can start bringing in cards as soon as you would like.

Second one is Scrappy's new donation projects for schools and kids programs.

Urban Scrapbooker Birthday Party Results

Hello Everyone,

I want to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to help us celebrate our birthday this past weekend. The party was a blast and it was great to see so many familiar faces. I can't remember when I hugged so many people in one day (if I missed you, then I owe you one the next time you are in!). And to those of you that couldn't make it in for the party but sent in your wishes, thank you so much for thinking about us. And, last, but not least, (sniff...) I would like to thank all my wonderful customers and friends who have supported the store and helped make this first year a wonderful one.

I am really looking forward to the exciting things we can do and the cool projects we can come up with this coming year.

We got some really great entries for the contest. There were a few front-runners and in the end, the cool part is that every entry ended up getting multiple votes. Ok, well, every entry but one... Scrappy did his very first page all by himself but no one voted for him. He even used 3 varieties of Thickers letters. Poor Scrappy!

The entries will be on display until the end of the month if you didn't get a chance to see them yet. Thanks to all the participants! It was so much fun.

- Kaiser Craft - has some new colors in rhinestones if you are addicted to bling (like most of us...) and a few new pet papers in boy and girl colors.

Unfortunately our teacher for the Ribbon and Bows Class on September 11th needed to reschedule. We are working on a new date for the class, as I've heard from a number of you that you would be interested in taking this one...

Can you believe it's been almost a year already? Wow! The old saying "Time Flies When You Are Having Fun" is sure true in our case!

Brooke's Out Of Town Again

So I'm heading down to Vancouver WA for a small trade show and will be gone this coming Sunday and Monday. Last time I was out of town, Scrappy had so much fun with everyone telling him what a wonderful job he was doing, he wants to do that again!

Hi Everyone,

Well, if you've been in the store in the last couple days you have seen that the boxes from CHA have already started to roll in (and I've still got orders to place -yippee for new product!!)

SALE< SALE< SALE

But what this means is that I have to make some room for all the new stuff so we are having a BIG CLEARANCE SALE this weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Scrappy is out of town this weekend, so he said it is the perfect weekend for us to hold a sale! I seem to like to fly by the seat of my pants when I plan sales so I haven't decided everything that's going to be on sale, but here's what I do know:

Mini-Book Happy Hour

The first Mini-Book Happy Hour was this Wednesday. We had a number of kids ranging from 5 to 12 and everyone's projects looked great and best of all they had fun!

If you missed the announcement about this ongoing project, we are doing a mini-book at the store over the course of 8 weeks. The first week we did the covers for the book, and we will do 7 pages over the next 7 weeks - 1 a week. The topic of the book is All About Me. I have gotten some great feedback from the folks that were here on Wednesday that I am going to add into the book to make it even better! This project is set up so it is simple enough for kids to do, but cute enough for everyone. I made extra cover kits, so if you would still like to join in the project we can get you caught up - no problem!

The cool thing about this Mini-Book Project is that happy hour is from 3-6 on Wednesdays, so we will be set up during that time and you can just swing in when it's convenient for you. And we offer the option of just paying for the one project you've done or purchasing a membership for the 8 week duration. If you purchase the membership, I will hold your projects for you if you can't come in one week, and you are guaranteed to get a project.

The price is $13 for the membership (covers and 7 pages), or $3 for the covers and $1.50 per page. There are pictures of the mini book (before we got titles finished) on the home page of our website www.urbanscrapbooker.com

Ok, well, it's almost 10:30. I better get up and get rolling so I can get to work on time and start putting everything on sale!!!!! Look for another email from me next week with some info about the new stuff that's rolling in.

Wow! What a fun show this was!

The CHA Summer Show is a bit smaller than the one in the winter, but I'll tell you, there is still so much more to look at than I could possibly see in 3 days. There was a bunch of stuff for Halloween, Back to School, Thanksgiving and Fall, Christmas and Winter and even Valentine's Day. If you like snowmen, you are in luck because they are HOT this year, and oh, so cute. Here's some of the companies I ordered from off the top of my head:

Mini-Book Make-n-Take Happy Hour

We are starting a new weekly happy hour project with kids in mind! Every week during happy hour we will be doing a 6x6 page for a mini book. The projects will be simple enough for kids to do, but cute enough for everyone. If you saw the mini-book from the Northwest Paper Chase, this is a similar idea. The first week we will be doing the covers for the mini-book, and the pages will be every week after for the next couple of months. I have a sample here at the store of the cover and the first few pages.

OOPS - I'm still a little worn out from the show, I can tell :-)

The Mini-Book Happy Hour is going to start next week. Happy Hour will be from 3-6 on Wednesdays. However, I would love feedback as to when YOU would like to see happy hour during the week. If another day ends up working better, then I'm happy to change it. Sorry about the second email, but thanks to those who reminded me about the small but very important details I left out (grin)...

The cover project will be $3 and the pages will be $1.50 per week. This happy hour will be open to everyone so you can just come in and make the weekly page if you would like. However, because we will have a limited number of kits pre-made, we are offering a membership card. This will allow you to pre-pay for the projects and guarantee we save a page for you! The additional benefit of this membership is that if you are unable to make it in during happy hour, we will save yours for you until you can make it in to pick it up. $13 for the cover and the first 7 pages.

Hi everyone,

I just got back from a quick trip to Idaho. My mom and my step dad live over in Lewiston. It was a short trip, only a couple days, but it sure was great to get to see them. Many of you met my mom, Carole, at our grand opening celebration last October. She was the one helping with the spider make-n-take. But I tell you, it was 106 degrees in the shade over there. WHEW! That is sooooo hot. I was sad to have to say goodbye to my mom and Ned, but happy to get back to our Seattle version of hot weather. We are so lucky to have such wonderful summers here.

A few things to note:

We will be closed on Friday, the 4th of July. I want to wish you all a wonderful holiday, filled with lots of fun and great memories. Don't forget to take pictures!

The new passport line is here from Making Memories. It's a great line for travel, with a little different feel than your standard vacation lines. And they came out with a bunch of new alphabets too, some really cool ones. All this cool new stuff is up front at the store, and you can see pictures of some of the product on our blog:


Speaking of the blog, keep your eye on it. Kim is going to be taking it over for a while and you never know what little tidbits she'll slip in there when I'm not looking.

Ok, I can't believe it, but it is almost time for CHA again. This is the major tradeshow where the manufactures show a lot of their new product and we get to pick and choose what new goodies to bring into the store. I'll be in Chicago July 17th -20th. Scrappy will be holding down the fort part of the time, so make sure to stop by and say hi.

Hi Everyone!

Have Your Baby Shower at Urban Scrapbooker!

We just had our very first baby shower at Urban Scrapbooker and boy oh boy, was it fun. The shower activity was to make a double page layout for the baby book. The pages turned out absolutely adorable and it was a lot of fun for everyone who came, even those who had never scrapbooked before. And the mom-to-be has a great memento from the shower and already has a great start on the baby book.

Upcoming Classes

We have some great classes coming up at Urban Scrapbooker and we have updated the website (www.urbanscrapbooker.com) so you can now see pictures of what we are making in the class. This way you can still see the samples even if you haven't had a chance to pop in to the store.

June 7th 11:30-1:30 - Father's Day Card Class $20 - these cards are great, not only for Father's Day, but anytime you need a card with a masculine feel. And they are very easy to make once you have the pattern.

June 17th 5:30 - 7:30 - Fast & Fabulous Layouts $22 - Get those layouts done! We will be making 4 layouts in 2 hours so come ready for a fast paced class. We will be moving right along so we can get everything done in the 2 hours. 3 of the 4 layouts are pictured on the website. The fourth will be a vacation themed page.

June 19th 5:30-7:30 - Beginner Scrapbooking Class $8

June 21st 11:30-1:30 - 4th of July Star Boxes $20 - These great star boxes will make wonderful center pieces for your summer BBQs. Once you know how to make them, think about how fun they would be to use as gift boxes or center pieces for other holidays too.

June 26th 5:30-7:30 - Beyond the Basics (Beginner Scrapbooking 2) $18

Sales this summer

Ok, we are going to try something a little different this summer. Starting June 16th, for the next 4 weeks we will be having a daily sale. Hmmm, interesting, you say. A sale every day? Yep, but here's the catch: The sale will be posted on the door so you'll have to swing by to see what's on sale because it wont be announced via the website or the phone.

This is a trial run, so depending on how well the program works, we might keep it up for the whole summer. It's up to you guys.


Ambassador Program

Notice from Scrappy - please help

As many of you know, Scrappy (my Pappy) has other businesses that keep him busy outside his illustrious career as scrapbook store handyman, marketing and business consultant and Sunday store watcher.

He is currently in the final stages of an amazing new product for cleaning and restoring old record albums. So, if you have anyone in your life who is a record collecting fanatic, these new kits will make a really cool (and unexpected) gift.

Oops, I got side tracked. So, currently, Scrappy is looking for a professional seamstress with a serging (did I spell that right?) machine for an important piece of one of his experiments. If that's you, or you know someone that might be able to help him, please contact him directly at gs@watercenter.com. Please, please help if you can because is so tired of reading Craig's list. Or you can contact me, and if he's really nice, I might just tell him.

I've had a lot of requests for a beginner class that kids can take, so we are putting one on the schedule (yippee!). This class will be set up as a mother/daughter (or grandma, aunt, neighbor, etc) kind of a class and it will be on the weekend so it's easier to fit on the schedule. It's basic structure is similar to our other Beginner 1 class, but a little less talking and a little shorter.

Mother/Daughter Beginner Class - $15 for 2 people

May 10th 3:00-4:30pm

May 31st 3:00-4:30pm

* Basics Scrapbooking topics such as why & what to scrapbook, especially to give kids some ideas (although they usually have tons of ideas ), what's on a page and very basic design principals
* Quick tool overview - cutters and adhesive options
* Project Time! - bring your own photos and learn how match them with papers, stickers, etc in the store
*** What to bring: 5-6 theme related photos, please bring scissors for your kids to use as the ones we have at the store are very sharp, if you have a paper trimmer and would like to learn how to use it, please bring it but we have some at the store if you don't. We provide glue sticks for working on the layouts, but if you have other adhesive you like, feel free to bring it.

Hi Friends,

Starting this week, we have new hours. A number of you have mentioned you would love the store to be open on Wednesdays. So guess what?? Now we are! And we've extended the weeknight hours to be open until 7pm.

New Hours:
Monday - Friday 11am-7pm (including Wednesdays!)
Saturday 11am - 6pm
Sunday noon - 5pm (Scrappy's Day)


National Scrapbooking Day May 3rd

As many of you know I just got back from CHA, the Craft and Hobby
Association Trade Show, down in Anaheim. This is the biggest trade show of
the year for scrapbooking where the manufacturers debut their new products.
It was so much fun and so many things to see.

I found some great new manufacturers for Urban Scrapbooker and I ordered a
ton of new stuff that you're going to love. It's already starting to arrive,
if you can believe that! A lot of the product will be shipping within the
next couple weeks, so be on the lookout for some great new items in our

Northwest Paper Chase

The Northwest Paper Chase starts next weekend. It is a 10 day shop hop event
with 16 area stores participating from February 29-March 9. You can buy your
Passport and Souvenir Pin at Urban Scapbooker if you want to participate.



Some of the benefits:

* Each store is offering a 6x6 make-n-take page for passport holders.
We have many of the samples from the different shops on our counter so come
in and take a look! The first 15 to purchase their passports from Urban
Scrapbooker will also receive a 6x6 cover kit.
* With the passport, you will get 15% off at all participating stores
during the shop hop. If you purchase the pin, you will get an extra 5% off
for a total of 20% off.
* There are some really great prizes offered for participants. You can

The Passports are $5 before the Northwest Paper Chase starts and $7 after it
starts. The Souvenir Pins are an additional $4.

Hello again dear friends and customers,

So much to talk about this time. The holidays are here and Scrappy and I
are busy trying to get the store ready.

If your friends and family are unsure what to get you this year, we can
help. We have the ability to store a wishlist on your account. You can
come in, shop for whatever you might want on your list, and we can print
that list out for your friends and family when they come in. It couldn't be
easier for them to get you exactly what you this year.

We have gift certificates, too! We have the cutest paper stockings that we
made just for you. These are our free gift with your $25 or great gift
certificate purchase. I've included a sample picture so you can see just how
cute these stockings are!

We are having a prize raffle for the holiday season. Between 11/23 and
12/24, for every $25 you spend in the store you will receive one entry into
the prize drawing. And as a bonus, to celebrate the start of the holiday
shopping season, the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving are double
raffle entry days so you will get 2 entries for every $25 spent in the
store!

If I haven't mentioned it before, our workspace is free to use if there is
no classes or activities going on. You can give us a call at the store to
see what's going on. If you are interested in coming in with friends, we
can even reserve space for you. This is a perfect way to make sure to get
your holiday craft projects done without distraction!

The Creative Café is now open. We have simple, cute and inexpensive weekly
project ideas that you can make right in the store in a few minutes. The
first project will be available November 28th. The December projects are
perfect for kids too!

classes we had were so successful so it's time for some more! Here's the
